Today we celebrate a historic milestone for the coffee industry in Mexico. Cafiver is proud to host the first certified instant coffee cupping in Mexico, an event that opens new paths in the appreciation and evaluation of a product that has been wrongly underestimated. This achievement is reinforced by the prestigious certification granted by the Brazilian Association of the Instant Coffee Industry (ABICS), which reaffirms our commitment to excellence and innovation in every cup.

Discover ABICS: A Legacy That Spans Decades

Founded in 1972, the Brazilian Association of the Instant Coffee Industry (ABICS) was created to represent the 11 instant coffee industries in Brazil at a time when the coffee economy was heavily regulated by the State through the Brazilian Coffee Institute (IBC). The creation of ABICS was essential to act as an intermediary between the industries and government authorities, defending the sector's interests amid regulatory and economic challenges.

Over time, and especially during the economic changes of the late 1980s and early 1990s—following the end of the International Coffee Agreement and the dissolution of the IBC—ABICS strategically reoriented itself to adapt to a constantly changing global market. Today, the association represents 100% of instant coffee production in Brazil, bringing together major industries that have modernized their processes and adopted international certifications to guarantee the quality and competitiveness of the sector.

In addition, ABICS has been an engine of change, driving investment in technology and expansion, which has allowed Brazil to maintain its worldwide leadership in instant coffee production and export. With a processing capacity of more than 132,000 tons per year and a presence in more than 120 countries, ABICS remains synonymous with innovation, traceability, and sustainability.

Cafiver: Innovation and Commitment to Quality

At Cafiver, innovation is part of our DNA. By becoming the host of this pioneering event, we not only demonstrate our commitment to quality but also mark the beginning of a new era for instant coffee in Mexico. The ABICS certification backs our effort to raise instant coffee standards, applying rigorous international criteria that guarantee an exceptional product.

This event brings together a range of companies in the sector, reflecting the interest in and need for professionalizing instant coffee in the country. With the certified cupping, the aim is to change the perception of instant coffee, showing that, with the right approach, it can be evaluated with the same rigor as specialty coffee.

The Importance of the Event for the Mexican Industry

Holding the first certified instant coffee cupping in Mexico represents a transcendent step forward for the national coffee industry. Traditionally, instant coffee has been seen as a product different from whole-bean coffee, but this event shows that quality and flavor can reach levels of excellence when professional evaluation techniques are applied.

The ABICS certification in this context has multiple implications:

  • International Standards: Validates the quality of instant coffee against global criteria, positioning it in a competitive market.
  • Industrial Growth: Drives the professionalization of the sector, encouraging investment in technology and the modernization of processes.
  • Consumer Confidence: Strengthens credibility and preference for high-quality instant coffee, raising its perception in the market.

This joint effort benefits not only the companies taking part in the cupping, but also paves the way for Mexico to establish itself as a relevant player in the global coffee market.

The Future of Instant Coffee

The global instant coffee landscape is constantly evolving, and ABICS's strategic vision has been key to keeping Brazil at the forefront. With multimillion-dollar investments in technological improvements and a focus on sustainability, the sector has not only adapted to market challenges but also increased its competitiveness worldwide.

At Cafiver, we believe the future of instant coffee is full of opportunities. The certified cupping is just the beginning of a transformation that seeks to raise the quality and perceived value of this product, showing that, with the right approach, instant coffee can compete and stand out in the global market.
