About CAFIVER

Who we are, where we are and what we believe in

What is CAFIVER?

CAFIVER is a 100% Mexican coffee processor and marketer, with a plant in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, operating since 1985.

It produces green, decaffeinated, roasted, ground and instant coffee; sells its own brands (CAFIVER, Negro Café, Continental and Vivendi); offers Coffee Service for hotels, restaurants and offices; and manufactures for third parties (co-packing and private label). It supplies more than 100 cities in Mexico and exports to four continents.

Where is CAFIVER coffee produced?

It is produced at the CAFIVER plant in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, high in the mountains of one of Mexico's most important coffee-growing regions.

The plant processes more than 33,500 tons of coffee per year and has specialized warehouses for green and finished coffee. CAFIVER also has international offices in Miami (U.S.A.) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). Learn more at About us.

What coffee brands does CAFIVER have?

CAFIVER has four of its own brands: CAFIVER (roasted and ground, capsules and kits), Negro Café (instant), Continental (instant) and Vivendi (whole bean roasted and ground, 100% arabica).

Its portfolio includes 18 coffees in regular and decaffeinated versions, in whole bean, ground, instant, capsules and single-serve formats. You can filter them by flavor and roast at Our brands.

Is CAFIVER a Mexican company?

Yes. CAFIVER's capital became 100% Mexican in 2000.

The company was founded in 1985 in Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, through an alliance between a group of Mexican exporters and a German company. Today its products carry the “Hecho en Veracruz” (Made in Veracruz) mark for the CAFIVER, Negro Café and Continental brands.

What certifications does CAFIVER hold?

CAFIVER holds, among others, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, C-TPAT, Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, Kosher, Halal, organic certifications (USDA, EU and Mexico), Gluten Free (ACELMEX), ESR Distinction and EcoVadis.

In 2025 it also received the Premio México Muy Mexicano award and has earned the ESR social responsibility distinction for 12 consecutive years. See the details at Certifications.

What does CAFIVER do for sustainability?

80% of the electricity used in its industrial processes comes from renewable sources, and spent coffee grounds are used as thermal energy within the plant itself.

In 2025 it planted 2,400 Oyamel fir trees in Villas Pico, La Perla, Veracruz, and since 2020 it has supported the community of El Porvenir, Zongolica, through the “Adopt a Community” program. It's all in Sustainability (CAFIVERDE).

Where does the coffee CAFIVER uses come from?

CAFIVER's Mexican coffee comes from growing regions such as Veracruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca.

It works with regions whose harvest cycles complement each other to maintain inventory throughout all 12 months of the year. Each contributes a different profile: Veracruz, round body and moderate citrus acidity; Chiapas, full body with chocolatey notes and low acidity; Oaxaca, floral notes and light to medium body.

Where are the CAFIVER cafés?

There are two: the first opened in 2017 next to the plant in Ixtaczoquitlán, and the second opened in 2026 in downtown Orizaba, Veracruz.

They are spaces to try CAFIVER brands served on the spot. Before you go, confirm opening hours through the contact form.

Preparing and storing your coffee

Dosage, grind, storage and recipes

How much ground coffee do I use per cup?

CAFIVER recommends 8 grams of coffee per 177 ml (6 oz) cup.

At that dose, a 500 g bag yields more than 60 cups. Adjust the amount of coffee up or down depending on how strong you like it.

What grind do I need for my coffee maker?

As a general rule, use a coarse grind for French press, medium for drip coffee makers, Chemex or V60, and fine for espresso or moka pot.

If you buy CAFIVER ground coffee, check the package for the recommended brewing method; if you prefer to grind it yourself, choose whole bean coffee. More in the article Types of Coffee Grind.

How do I store coffee after opening it?

Keep the coffee tightly sealed in a cool, dry place; CAFIVER also notes that it can be refrigerated.

The Vivendi bag includes a valve and a tin tie closure to preserve aroma and freshness. Avoid moisture, heat and direct light.

What is the difference between agglomerated and spray dried instant coffee?

Spray dried is made by atomizing coffee extract and produces a fine powder; agglomerated binds those particles into larger granules.

CAFIVER makes both types at its Ixtaczoquitlán plant, as well as spherical instant coffee since 2005.

How do I make iced coffee with instant coffee?

Dissolve the instant coffee in 2 tablespoons of hot water, pour it into a glass with ice, and top with milk and a drop of vanilla.

This is the CAFIVER Iced Latte recipe, and it takes 5 minutes. Find more drinks and desserts in Recipes.

How is coffee decaffeinated?

CAFIVER decaffeinates green beans with methylene chloride or ethyl acetate, and today it also offers a sugarcane process.

The Ixtaczoquitlán plant was founded in 1985 as a decaffeination plant and is now developing a method using natural bioagents. The goal is to preserve aroma and flavor without the caffeine.
